Mondaiji.com is a burgeoning social community aimed at subculture
freelancers, artists, and enthusiasts. Fans of subculture along
with comedians,
musicians, singers, media creators, bands, photographers, dancers, etc.
can get to know each other, become friends, and display their creations
for all to see. Being a community of independent-minded
people, Mondaiji.com seeks to better connect subculture artists with
fans as well as freelancers with clients.
For example:
You want to make your own website but need a web designer and
graphic artist.
You work for a small media production company that needs actors
for a
promotional video. Using a talent agency is expensive, so you
would prefer to find and hire a few actors directly.
You're in a band but need a drummer.
You're a drummer looking for a band.
You're a comedian hoping to collaborate with other comedians.
You need a translator / interpreter for an upcoming project.
You want to learn a foreign language or martial art.
You're an independent artist / musician / comedian and want to
better publicize your creations and connect with fans.
You're a foreigner living in Japan or interested in Japan.
You're a Japanese person living abroad or interested in foreign
cultures.
You're a free-thinker and want to connect with other like-minded
people.
What is subculture?
Subculture is the opposite of mainstream pop culture. Subculture is NOT...
Johnny's
Yoshimoto
Music Station
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Red Carpet
Enta No Kami-sama
Avex
Sony
Mixi
Oricon
and things like that.
Subculture is not what big corporations feed you. It is
independent and free-spirited. While mainstream culture is a
flock of sheep, subculture is the lone wolf.
Why did you make Mondaiji.com?
I myself am an IT freelancer that also performs subculture comedy in Japan. I don't think there are many websites in Japan where subculture can be experienced, so I wanted to create a community for freelancers, artists, and fans like myself.
Why is this site called "Mondaiji?"
"Mondaiji" is the Japanese word for "problem child." However, in Japanese slang there's another meaning. Since we oppose mainstream pop culture, subculture-ites are known as "mondaiji." In other words, we don't do what our parents want us to do. We play music, travel abroad, start our own businesses, and creatively express ourselves.
What makes this site different from sites like Mixi or YouTube?
Those sites target anyone and everyone, so I think they're too far-reaching. Mondaiji.com is composed solely of interesting, independent-minded subculture-ites.
I want to join. How much is membership?
It's 100% free. There is also no "Mondaiji Premium" service.
What is the "Facebook Connect" button?
If you are already a member of Facebook, then you can simply login to Mondaiji.com using your existing Facebook username and password. Your Facebook profile will be automatically imported, so there's no need to register or create a separate profile.
